UNDP/ARAB HUMAN DEVELOPMENT REPORT 2002: MEP'S LETTER TO ELMAR BROK, PRESIDENT OF THE FOREING AFFAIRS COMMITTEE

To the Attention of Elmar Brok
President of the Foreing Affairs Committee

Strasbourg, 3th July 2002
Dear colleague,

The UN Development Program has recently issued it's "Arab Human Development Report 2002", under the direction of Ms Rima Khalaf Huanidi, director of the Arab bureau, and former deputy prime Minister of Jordan, making it an essential document for a comprehensive understanding of the issues and the challenge that the Arab World is called to face.

In vue of the current situation in the Arab world, that is undergoing a crucial and very delicate period of transition, and considering the future of its relation with the EU, as well as the role that the EU can play, we consider that it would be highly appropriated for the Foreign Affairs Committee to have a Hearing with Ms Rima Khalaf Huanidi and her team, in order to present to the European Parliament the outcome of their Report.

We think it would be essential that the Hearing should take place in the shortest possible delay. We would suggest the September sessions of the Committee.

Sincerely
