Rally in defence of political prisoners in Moscow

Russia, Moscow. 20 May at Pushkin Square in Moscow a rally took place in defence of political prisoners: Mikhail Khodorkovskiy, Mikhail Trepashkin, Igor Soutyaghin and Platon Lebedev. The rally was organised by Rossiiskie Radikaly (Russian Radicals) movement, Sovest (Conscience) group and movement For the Human Rights. Moscow authorities had been informed about the rally and there were no incidents with militia.
The rally began at 7 p.m. and continued for little over an hour. About 300 people turned up at the rally. Among the speakers were Gleb Yakounin, Lev Ponomaryov, Valeria Novodvorskaya, Ernst Chornyi and other human rights and NGOs activists. Most speakers spoke about the revenge of the state security, to which the evidence is the increased number of political prisoners in Russia. Yuriy Samodurov and Boris Stomakhin who are currently under investigations on political accusations, were mentioned in the speeches.
The organisers of the rally gave participants T-shirts and balloons with images of Mikhail Khodorkovskiy. At the end of the rally on the signal from a speaker, everybody let go of the balloons as a symbol of release of Khodorkovskiy and other political prisoners.
