ATTACK ON THE ACTIVISTS OF THE RADICAL PARTY WHO WERE CARRYING OUT NEAR THE CUBAN EMBASSY A DEMONSTRATION IN SUPPORT OF THE "ASSEMBLY TO PROMOTE CIVIL SOCIETY IN CUBA"
Moscow, May 20, 2005. The demonstration of the Radical Party in support of the "Assembly to promote Civil Society in Cuba" which was organized by the Cuban dissidents in Havana and began its work these hours, took place tonight near the embassy of Republic Cuba in the Russian Federation (Leontyevsky per. 9) simultaneously with similar demonstrations near Cuban diplomatic missions in Rome, Milan, Paris, Madrid, Barcelona and Brussels. The Radicals underwent a hooligan attack of hong weibing from the "Avantgarde of Red Youth".
Approximately five minutes after the beginning of the demonstration of the Radicals which passed under the slogan "For a civil society in Cuba" in Russian and Spanish, with flags of Cuba and of the Radical Party, a group of approximately ten people with red flags of the Revolutionary Union of Communist Youth (bolshevik) (RUCY(b)) and the Cuban flag, portraits of Che Guevara and signs "Cuba is all right" and "We want to live as in Cuba" came to the embassy. Despite obviously supposed by the organizers of the "counter- picket" "alternativeness", the members of the RUCY(b) did not show aggression in respect of Radicals.
Unexpectedly, after approximately twenty minutes after the beginning of the action, about five-six people appeared (some of them - with red scarfs on their faces). Shouting "Hands off Cuba" they threw a pair of raw eggs towards the demonstrators and rushed at Radicals with fists, trying to wrench signs and flags. The militiamen protecting public order in the course of the demonstration, tried to stop hooligan actions of the attackers, but they resisted to militia. In result the militia with the help of the Radicals detained and brought to the militia station "Presnensky" four attackers among which there were the leader of the "Avantgarde of Red Youth" Sergey Udaltsov who commanded the hooligans, and one of assistants to the deputy of the State Duma from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Ivan Melnikov.
The secretary of the "Russian Radicals" Nikolaj Khramov, the treasurer of the "Russian Radicals" Anna Zaytseva and the chairman of the Coordinating Committee of the "Russian Radicals" Andrey Rodionov also went to the militia station "Presnensky" where they wrote statements as sufferers.
Nikolaj Khramov's comment:
"Most likely, the militia is going to institute administrative procedings in respect of the attackers for disorderly conduct and to bring them tomorrow in the morning to the court where they can expect a fine or several days of administrative arrest. But the actions of the attackers obviously have formal components of a crime stipulated by the article 213.2 of the Criminal Code of Russia: hooliganism, that is, gross violation of public order expressing obvious disrespect for the society, accompanied with use of violence in respect of citizens or threat of such use, as well as destruction or damage to citizens' property, accomplished by a group of persons by previous concert or by an organized group. Tomorrow in the morning I'll inform about this fact the public prosecutor of Presnensky district of Moscow, demanding to institute criminal proceedings.
As to the political estimation of what happened - if only a banal hooliganism requires any political estimation at all - it remains only to state once again: professional neostalinists making their "political" career with the help of silly young men in a role of hong weibing who dream "to live as in Cuba", once again show the essence of their ideology - intolerance, violence, dullness and criminal actions. Once again they showed their enmity first of all not to us, Radicals, but to the people of Cuba oppressed by Castro's regime".
