VIGNETTA

LYMEC FOREIGN POLICY COMMITTEE AND RADICALI ITALIANI TO CONDEMN THE IRANIAN REGIME VIOLENCE AGAINST THE ARAB MINORITY IN KUZESTAN
Tweet
During the last weekend more than 30 Ahwazi Arab demonstrators were killed, over 500 injured and thousands were arrested during protests in the southwestern Iranian Province of Khuzestan (al-Ahwaz) in 15-17 April 2005 by Iranian security forces. Demonstrations broke out after the publication of a top secret letter from President Khatami's office, which detailed plans for a plan of ethnic cleansing and ethnic "restructuring" in Khuzestan.
LYMEC- European Liberal Youth - and European Radicals sympathize and would like to express their solidarity to all the Iranian opposition movements, minorities and students that have chosen nonviolence as a strategic mean to promote freedom in Iran.
LYMEC Foreign Affairs and Free Trade Committee and Radicali Italiani support and sign the Trasnational Radical Party Appeal that urges the United Nations, the European Council and their member states: to ask the Iranian authorities to respect the human and civil rights of all Iranian citizens, in accordance with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948 and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, undersigned by the Islamic Republic of Iran, and to put an end to its attempts to promote theocracy in Iraq and elsewhere in the Middle East. We fatherly the Iranian authorities to allow a free referendum, with the supervision of independent international observers, for the revision of the Constitution and the establishment of a secular, democratic state based on the rule of law.
