MAURIZIO TURCO (PRESIDENT OF RADICAL MEPs) MEETS THE VICE SEGRETARY-GENERAL OF THE COUNCIL OF EUROPE ON THE "ITALIAN CASE" AND ON PRISONS

Maurizio Turco, President of Radical MEPs, and Ottavio Marzocchi, advisor for civil liberties of Radical MEPs, have met Mme Maud de Boer-Buquicchio, Vice-Secretary General of the Council of Europe.

Maurizio Turco tabled the dossier prepared by Radicals on the "Italian case", that gathers informations on the serious situation of illegality in Italy, and notably on the issues of information, prisons, referendum, justice, institutions. He consequently asked the implementation of art. 52 of the European Convention on Human Rights, that provides the Council of Europe Secretary General to start an enquiry into the application of fundamental rights in a State Party to the Convention.

During the meeting also the issues of prisons and of the Italian special detention regime (the so-called 41 bis regime) have been raised.
