MOTION ON THE CONVENING OF INTERNATIONAL DEMOSTRATIONS TO STOP WAR IN CHECHNYA ON 23 FEBRUARY 2002 APPROVED BY THE EXTRAORDINARY POLITICAL BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE TRANSNATIONAL RADICAL PARTY

The Extraordinary Political Board of Directors of TRP, convened in Rome on 9 February 2002,

reaffirming its commitment to stop the war in Chechnya and to the immediate opening a political negotiations between the President of the Russian Federation Mr.Vladimir Putin the Chechen President Alan Maskhadov;

calling on the European Union to unilaterally proceed to recognize the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria and President Maskhadov's legitimate Government;

considering that the tragic situation in Chechnya urges the exertion of the utmost political pressure on the Russian Government to stop the use of the "Holy Alliance against Terror" as an alibi for the genocide of the Chechen people;

endorsing the demonstration to stop war in Chechnya convened the Comité Tchetchenie of Paris for 23 February 2002 - anniversary of Stalin's deportation of the Chechen people in 1944;

welcomes the organization on 23 February 2002, in Moscow, of a demonstration to stop the war in Chechnya, proposed by Russian Radicals and the Radical Antimilitarist Association;

hopes that similar demonstrations to stop war in Chechnya will be called all over the world;

and in particular, urges all members, militants and supporters of the TRP, as well as Representatives of "Radicali Italiani", to convene in Rome and in many other Italian cities, demonstrations to stop war in Chechnya.
