The government of Cuba has begun to confiscate satellite dishes
Tweet
CUBA, Havana. The Cuban government has begun its next campaign to confiscate satellite dishes which Cubans have at home. According to the CubaNet news agency, this conclusion can be drawn from news emanating from the island.
For example, on the 12th January official representatives from the Committee for the defence of the revolution, accompanied by two agents in uniform confiscated the dish from a private home and imposed a 1000 peso fine on the owners (approximately four times the average monthly salary in Cuba).
A neighbour who observed the incident reported that the police had said this was a warning measure and the next time the punishment would be more severe.
The Cuban government periodically organizes searches with the aim of finding home-made dishes. In Havana rumours are currently circulating that the government intends to carry out a mass confiscation of dishes.
