Italian's political rights abroad

The Italian Constitution grants voters the right to request a referendum (article 75) and to propose legislation to Parliament (article 71). Italians residing abroad possess these same rights, but find themselves in the impossibility to exercise them as citizens need for their signature to be authenticated. Abroad, only the Consul is authorized to do so, and only inside the Consulate, which is often located at great distance from where citizens actually live.

The death sentence for former President Morsi - the latest in over a hundred death sentences passed on members of the Muslim Brotherhood, including its spiritual leader Mohamed Badie - appears to be politically motivated and clearly fails to meet the minimum standards imposed by the Rule of Law and the guarantees for fair trial as adopted both at the international level and by Egypt itself.
