VIETNAM/MONTAGNARD: PANNELLA TAKES FULL PERSONAL AND POLITICAL RESPONSIBILITY IN DENOUNCING HUNDREDS OF MURDERED IN THE CENTRAL HIGHLANDS
Tweet
Statement by Marco Pannella, Member of the European Parliament and member of the Transnational Radical Party:
“Against the understandable prudence and reticences that is coming from press corps in Hanoi, I will take full personal and political responsibility to affirm that the number of Montagnard Christians victims of ferocious and preordained repression of the Vietnamese Government is, alas, to be put in the hundreds; several hundreds.
“On the eve of the EU-ASEAN countries Summit, and on the eve of Vietnam's possible entry into the WTO, the repression is continuing in the same usual way that Hanoi portrays as 'incredible'. In reality, Hanoi is pursuing, with a little delay, the definitive extermination and elimination of the Montagnards people in Vietnam.
“I hope that President Prodi, once back from his mission to China, will take full control of the political management of the relationships with the South East Asian region and in particular with Vietnam and Cambodia, where they have developed and consolidated themselves - for the deliberate and stubborn choice of the competent Commissioner, and against the contribution and deliberations of the European Parliament -, in such a way that no precise measures to put and end to the ongoing massacre have been put in place swiftly.
“All this is happening while there is an escalation in the repression against the Unified Buddhist Church of Vietnam as denounced by its spokesperson Mr. Vo Van Ai before the UN Commission on Human Rights last week.
“I therefore repeat that I will take full responsibility in announcing that the number of people killed in Vietnam's Central Highlands is of at least, I repeat, at least, several hundreds, and that an extremely dangerous escape towards the jungle of thousand of people is taking place.
“We are before the Communist pursuement of a final solution against the Montagnard people, with the obvious complicity of Pnohm Penh.
