Strasbourg-New-York, October 13 1995. While Francisco Chaviano, President of the Counsel for Civil Rights in Cuba, is now at the thirtieth day of his hunger strike, an urgent resolution on the Francisco CHAVIANO GONZALEZ case has been approved by the European Parliament following the initiative of the parliamentarians PANNELLA and DELL'ALBA, Italian "reformers", members of the Transnational Radical Party.
In this resolution, the EP asks, among other things, that Cuban authorities undertake to have CHAVIANO judged by a civil court, that he be given the maximum guarantees of due process and that, in waiting for the process, he be released.
Furthermore, the EP asks that the Cuban Penal Code be reformed in order to conform to those principles that are universally recognized and the abolishment of the death penalty.
