TRAGEDY IN KOSOVO: WHERE HAS THE "VIRILITY" OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT GONE ?
Statement of Olivier Dupuis and Gianfranco Dell'Alba, Members of the European Parliament (European Radical Alliance)
Brussels, 29 March 1999. "Hour after hour, minute after minute, one horror adds itself to the next: new massacres, new villages in flame, new waves of refugees by tens of thousands, expelled after the destruction of their identification documents, registers. A multiplication of summary executions of personalities such as Mr. Baton Hazhui, Chief editor of the independent "Koha Ditore", Femi Agami, Member of the Rambouillet negotiating team and "disappearances" of Mr. Vetton Suroj and Mr. Ibrahim Rugova...
What is the European Parliament doing? Nothing. Scandalously nothing.
We call upon President Gil Robles to convene an extraordinary meeting of the Parliament with the following two points on the agenda:
- unconditional support of a massive ground intervention to liberate Serbs and Kosovars, Serbia and Montenegro and Kosovo from the nightmare of the nationalist/communist Milosevic regime.
- Immediate incrimination of Mr. Slobodan Milosevic before the International Criminal Tribunal for the crimes committed in Former Yugoslavia, for war crimes, for crimes against humanity and for genocide."
