Demba Traoré – Secretary of the Nonviolent Radical Party, Transnational and Transparty, a Malian lawyer and former member of the National Assembly of Mali – has met with the highest political officers of Italy. On March 7th afternoon – in occasion of the official opening of an exhibition on State-Church relations – Traoré was received and welcomed by the President of the Italian Republic, Giorgio Napolitano, and the President of the Italian Senate, Renato Schifani. He was accompanied by fellow Party members Emma Bonino, Italian Senate Vice-President, and senator Marco Perduca.

In the morning of March 8th, the recently-elected Secretary of the Party – along Treasurer Maurizio Turco MP, leaders Marco Pannella and Emma Bonino – was granted audience by the President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, Gianfranco Fini.
«It was a due meeting from an institutional viewpoint, but also a very pleasant one», the President noted, adding: «and the Radical Party’s strong focus on civil rights, at a national, european and international level, is relevant»
In the afternoon, Demba Traoré headed back to his hometown in Mali, Bamako. Last week Secretary Demba Traoré was on a mission in New York with Emma Bonino – on the occasion of the opening of the 56th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women – to participate in event titled “The universal ban on female genital mutilation: from the African Union decision to a UN General Assembly Resolution”, organised by No Peace Without Justice (affiliated to the Radical Party) and the International Coalition BanFGM.
The meeting – which was attended by about 200 participants, including human rights activists, diplomats, officials of the various UN agencies dedicated to protecting the rights of women and children, and ordinary citizens – saw the presence, among others, of Italian Welfare Minister Elsa Fornero.
