After the Libyan war some 25,000 people have arrived in Italy. They were used by Gaddafi as a “weapon” against Europe, loaded onto run-down barges, pushed towards the Italian coasts and involved in a context of unprecedented violence that they had not been seeking. Many of them are environmental refugees, and as such, they have not been granted political asylum or any subsidiary or humanitarian protection.
This recommendation
the PRNTT and the Italian and European Members of Parliament to take measures aimed at ensuring that these people be granted a humanitarian permit allowing them to seek a regular employment and to start a new life in Italy.
We are aware that if these people are not given the opportunity to obtain a residence permit they will remain in our country, swelling the ranks of illegal immigrants and as such, being again subject to violence and exploitation.
