Pannella: Cowardly Europe is at most the fated rough copy of the Europe of nationalistic-bureaucratic gaullist countries, from the Atlantic to the Urals
Tweet
NOTHING MORE IN COMMON WITH THAT OF SCHUMANN, EISENHOWER, AND DE GASPERI; EVEN LESS THAT OF ALTIERO SPINELLI, ERNESTO ROSSI, AND EUGENIO COLORNI. THEY WANTED “PEACE” RATHER THAN DEMOCRACY, FREEDOM AND SOCIAL PROGRESS. THEY WANTED NATIONAL MINI-STATES, DELUSION AND FRAUD FOR ALL THE POPULATIONS OF THE MIDDLE EAST, FOR ISRAEL ABOVE ANY OTHER. NEXT YEAR EUROPE TO JERUSALEM, JERUSALEM EUROPE.
Il Foglio, 15 July 2006
Once more, as for the ex-Yugoslavian tragedy, a cowardly, Gaullist Europe, split into nationalistic-bureaucratic countries, is responsible for the predictable and inevitable tragedy that now directly involves Palestinians, Lebanese and Israelis.
It was evident and inevitable that Israel, which covers 0.4% of the Middle East territory, bridgehead of democracy in that area, could have resisted, progressed and spread a civilised regime only as a Member State of Europe, i.e. a little less than a half a billion people.
In any case the Israeli ruling class was driven to pursue an impossible goal, under pain of its necessary transformation into a national State, deceptively forced to defend itself with wars (and peace), and not with the offer in the first place to the Palestinians, the Lebanese, and others too, of democracy, quality of life, civil and social progress. Then in 2000 the so-called democratic “Western” community stubbornly and blindly offered the solution of a “national State” to the Palestinians that is not only a crime but an error with unimaginable costs.
The “European” policy, which was the main cause of the Yugoslav tragedy after Tito’s death, expecting it to continue being “neutral”, not European and democratic; which with Israel directed everything towards “peace” rather than democracy, freedom and social progress for that whole area of the Middle East, which corresponds to the forty-year pro-Western and increasingly democratic choice by Turkey, a literally exhausted country that has made incomparable progress in the past ten years, and today their difficulties are accentuated rather than share the last leg of the road towards democratic completion.
This Europe bears no relationship with that of Schumann, Adenauer and De Gasperi, and above all with that of Altiero Spinelli, Ernesto Rossi and Eugenio Colorni. As far as Italy is concerned, it sees the oligarchic regime united, which increasingly practices illegality to its highest institutional moments (with the exception, so far, only of its new President of the Republic).
