Rome, 10 June, 1998. Tomorrow afternoon begins the international conference promoted by "No Peace Without Justice", Transnational Radical Party and NGO International Coalition for the International Criminal Court.
Under the symbol of a huge blood-stained YES made by Oliviero Toscani, will meet the greatest experts and supporters of the idea for the establishment of an international criminal court. The Mayor of Rome Francesco Rutelli who is with the administration of the city of Rome among the sponsors of this event, will address the conference on behalf of the city.
Among the speeches of the first day, besides the one of the Foreign Minister Dini and the Minister of Justice Flick, will be also the contributions of Giovanni Conso, President charged for Diplomatic Conference, French senator Robert Badinter, former Minister of Justice, vice-president of the Senate Contestabile, Marco Pannella and Staffan de Mistura, representative of UN.
The proceedings continue on Friday and conclude on Saturday with a round table chaired by the European Commissioner Emma Bonino where will meet the ministers and high level experts engaged in the tribunal.
Olivier Dupuis, Member of European Parliament and Secretary General of the Transnational Radical Party, who will deliver his speech in the Conference, has declared: "The UN Diplomatic Conference which until some weeks ago seemed to be destined to a sure success is endangered by common manoeuvres of those, and we are speaking about an alliance between big powers and rascal dictatorships, which try to empty the future international criminal court of the contents and efficiency of the system. The world public opinion has to act, now more than ever, in support of that front of states which unites the members of the European Union, big share of African states, headed by South Africa and Senegal, Latin America and Caribic, with little exceptions, which constitute presently the majority in UN. The occasion to launch the tribunal, fifty years after Norimberg, is unique and should be considered as part of justice for the victims of the most serious crimes the history recalls
