“The decision by the Belgian courts to send Michel Nihoul for trial and consequently to annul the dismissal of the case in January of this year on the basis of insufficient evidence is the first piece of good news for years in the Nihoul-Dutroux affair. All the many people in Belgium and abroad who had begun to lose faith in the Belgian justice system, beginning with the relatives of the victims, can therefore now say that “there is a judge in Liège” and can begin, albeit cautiously, to hope again.”
