KHRAMOV: SADDAM'S REGIME HAS FALLEN - THANKS TO DETERMINATION AND SELFLESSNESS OF AMERICANS AND BRITONS, CONTRARY TO THE SUPPORT RENDERED TO THE DICTATOR BY RUSSIA
Tweet
Statement by Nikolaj Khramov, President of the Coordinating Committee of Russian Radicals, member of the General Council of the Transnational Radical Party
Moscow, April 10, 2003
Saddam's regime has fallen. Yesterday's scenes shown on telescreens of all the world which will forever remain in the history - happy faces of Baghdadians, who throw down the statue of the dictator from the pedestal (exactly as we did in August 1991, on Lubyanskaya square!), greetings to liberators - all this means that the moment of liberation has come, all for what we, Radicals and dozens of thousands of people from almost all countries of the world, struggled during last two months: Free Iraq, freedom for the Iraqi men and women!
On the background of news from Baghdad, it was impossible yesterday to imagine something more idiotic than a show of a crowd of municipal employees and students driven by their bosses to the American embassy, who had to hold a rally "for peace" and "against the American imperialism".
Liberation of the Iraqis from the dictator happened thanks to determination and self-sacrifice of Americans and Britons. Liberation of the Iraqis happened contrary to the diplomatic, political (and maybe military and technical too) support which Russia rendered to Saddam. Contrary to gloating wishes of the Russian mass-media that the war be dragged out and appear to be as bloody as possible. Contrary to the pacifism and antiamericanism of our human rights activists and anti-war activists - sometimes hysterical, sometimes silent and sad.
However, events of these days and hours mean much more than liberation of one more people from one more sadist dictator. These hours, before our eyes, a hope for realization of a new global order is being born. The global order when it becomes possible the overthrow of dictatorships, the establishment of freedom and democracy contrary to the will of communist China, schizoprenic post-Soviet Russia, and Chirac who joined them, all those who were in former times granted the right to veto any changes in the world where the sacred cow of the "state sovereignty" was a reliable protection for any dictator and cannibal during all the semicentenial history after the World War II.
The overthrow of the regime of Saddam is an accomplished fact. Now it is necessary in the most concrete way to start scheduling a plan of actions for democratization of all other Arabian, Islamic, Asian and African countries where dictators rule till now. Now it is possible to look in a new way at our project too, which yesterday seemed to be a touching Utopia: creation of the World Organization of Democracies and Democracy.
