The motion, submitted by the Senators of the Nonviolent Radical Party, commits the Italian Government to promote human rights in Belarus at the European level.
In occasion of the discussion on the ratification of a Treaty between Italy and Belarus, the Radical Senators proposed a motion on human rights in Belarus and denounced how the Authorities of Belarus violated systematically human, political and civil rights.
The motion, approved by the Italian Senate, commits the Italian Government to “solicit the EU Council to request the Belarus Government to approve a moratorium on death penalty, to free the political prisoners Mikalay Autukhovich e Uladzimir Asipenka and to organize free and fair elections on December 19th, when Belarusian People will elect their President”.
Moreover, the approved document asks the Government to support, even financially, the European Humanities University, the Belarusian University closed by authorities in 2004 and relocated in exile in Vilnius.
