07.02.2002 - Today the Gianfranco Dell'Alba, MEP, Member of TRP, wrote to the Chairwoman of the EP- China delegation Mrs. Ploooij, emphasizing that in a report released on 7 February by Human Rights Watch there are lengthy accounts and clear evidence of the harsh repression that the People’s Republic of China has been carrying out against the members of the Falun Gong movement since 1999.

“Hundreds of Falun Gongs” Mr. Dell’Alba stated “are being subject to electric shock and other forms of torture for practicing their faith” and concluded urging the immediate convening of the EP-China delegation to discuss the violations of Human Rights in China, and in particular the situation of the Falun Gong movement on the eve of the annual meeting of the UN Commission on Human Rights. The EP is scheduled to discuss the EU common position on several issues discussed at the Geneva Commission.
