The Chief Observer of the European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) to Afghanistan, Emma Bonino, Member of the European Parliament, visited Faizabad on July 31st and August 1st in view of deploying EU EOM long-term and short-term observers in Badakhshan Province. Together with members of the EU EOM Core Team, she met with the Governor, Monshai Mujahid, the Head of the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission for the Province, Abdul Hide Kareme, as well as with some local candidates. The EU EOM delegation also had meetings with Unama and the Provincial Election Commission. The visit to Faizabad came after the visit to Jalalabad last week. As the EU EOM is a nation-wide mission, the Chief Observer is planning to travel to other Provinces in the following weeks.
Ms. Bonino, on her return from Fayzabad, was received by H.M King Zahir Shah.
