EOHR: INTERROGATING ATTEYA ALSERAFI, THE PROMINENT MILITANT LEADER AND THE ACTIVE MEMBER OF THE EGYPTIAN POPULAR COMMITTEE IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE PALESTINIAN INTIFADA
Tweet
The EOHR is deeply concerned about receiving the news that Atteya Alserafi the prominent militant leader and the member of the Egyptian committee in solidarity with the Palestinian Intifada was referred to the prosecution of the district of Mit ghamr, Dakahleya on Wednesday 4/9/2002, case no.2274 and he faces the charges of trickery and fraud.
On Sunday 21/4/2002, Alserafi along with some of his colleagues in the committee were arrested in Mit Ghamr city while they were collecting donations for the sake of supporting the Palestinian Intifada. It is worth mentioning that the prosecution released them on 22/4/2002 and returned all the confiscated things to them, the decision which was ignored in the police station. In another development, the prosecutor amended his decision the day after as he issued an order to keep the confiscated things. Atteya Alserafi will be presented before the prosecution of Mit Ghamr next Wednesday.
The EOHR expresses its deep concern about this case; as the activities of the Egyptian committee are not secret ones or not recognized by the state and its security bodies. Also the members of the committee are number of public figures and politicians and human rights activists including Atteya Alserafi who is known for his long political activities. In this regard, EOHR will eagerly follow up the developments of the case.
