In response to the article entitled “EU observer attacks big flaws in Afghan poll” (Jo Johnson, FT, 15 September), I have to say that I am rather taken aback by the misrepresentation of my views on the electoral process in Afghanistan. While I did raise some of the concerns reported, a number of positive points that I made have been left out. Moreover, the choice of title and the introductory sentence, which distort the spirit of the interview, are questionable. The day after Election Day, on Monday 19th, the EU Election Observation Mission will issue a preliminary statement on its findings: this will be the right place to hear my comprehensive assessment of the election process up to that point.
