The City of Maddaloni (CE) with the democratic Iranian dissidents

On Monday, July 15, activists for Hands Off Cain and Giuseppe Ferraro presented a proposal to the agenda of the City of Maddaloni on the violation of human rights in Iran and in support of the democratic dissent in the country. On Saturday, June 13, the Convention organized by the National Council of the Iranian Resistance was held in Paris. A Radical delegation led by Marco Pannella, Hands Off Cain Secretary Sergio D'Elia, Treasurer Elisabetta Zamparutti and Antonio Stango participated.

The National Council of the Iranian Resistance, which is since long in exile, is a coalition of organizations, groups and democratic Iranian personalities residing abroad. It was founded in Tehran in 1981, and unites representatives of different ethnic and religious minorities, including Kurds, Baluchis, Armenians and Zoroastrians. The resistance is working to obtain democratic change and the birth of a popular, secular and democratic authority in Iran. It calls for the intervention of the UN and the European Union in order to avoid more bloodshed.

Our proposal asks Mayor Rosa De Lucia (who became a member of Hands Off Cain on a previous occasion) to press the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Italian Government, so that the international community recognizes the Iranian Resistance and bases its relationship with the Iranian regime on respect for human rights, loudly asking for the release of political prisoners.
