Strasbourg, 5 September 2000. In the framework of the budgetary procedure for 2001 MEPs Olivier Dupuis (Radical-TDI) and Doris Pack (CDU-PPE) presented an amendment before the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament, calling for the pledging of 10 million Euros (the equivalent in dollars) in the Western Balkans line for the to the co-financing of a private University in Tetovo. Such initiative intends to be a concrete answer to the new law on the University education adopted by the Macedonian Parliament last July. Thanks to this new legal framework it is now possible in Macedonia to create private Universities that can offer their education in languages other than Macedonian. This new law will allow the Albanian speaking community of Macedonia to have access to University education of quality, and will also allow to reintegrate some 7,000 Albanian speaking students in the cycle of Macedonia official education.
