INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE FOR FREEDOM TO SUPPORT THE NON-VIOLENT MOVEMENT FOR HUMAN RIGTHS IN VIETNAM
Press Release
The issue of minority oppression by the Vietnamese government has been challenged by the world opinion in the recent years. Dr. Nguyen Dan Que, a renowned dissident under house arrest in Vietnam, has many times voiced his concern for the highlanders and objection of the government’s policies. There have been more news from Vietnam regarding the ongoing oppression of the Montagnard in recent months, verified by such prestigious international organizations as Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, and the Trans-National Radical Party.
Dr. Que, has repeatedly pointed out, at his own perils from within Vietnam, that there is dire injustice meted out to the highlanders minority. He emphasized that the ethnic minorities in Vietnam should be considered members of the Vietnamese family and are entitled to be treated equally.
We strongly denounce the Communist Vietnam’s policy of discrimination and displacement of the Montagnards. We demand that the Hanoi regime reigns in its iron hand approach to the minorities and stop its arrests, torture, and execution of the Montagnards.
We will rally the Vietnamese community overseas and also call on the international community to pressure the Vietnamese government to cease the practices of land usurpation, harassment, and brutality toward these minorities.
